SAM Railroad Excursion
June 14, 2008

Saturday June 14th

SAM* Railroad
All Day Excursion!

(*) “SAM” = Savannah-Americus-Montgomery RR

We departed (and returned to) inside the Georgia Veterans State Park,
which is actually the trains first stop just outside of Cordele.

If you’ve not been on a SAM train, you might imagine this to be a historical throw-back event.  But we were on a “real train” with air conditioning, etc. Jean got our reservations for the premium “ Americus Car” with table and chair seating which made our Corvette Camaraderie even more jovial!  And we left the driving to a “real” engineer!  We urge that you go to the SAM website, (http://www.samshortline.com/ ), especially the “frequently asked questions” button, to learn more about what we did, etc.  It was a great opportunity for kids and grandkids too!

For more on the interesting history of this line and Georgia railroads in general, see http://www.samshortline.com/net/content/page.aspx?s=5414.0.0.

Twenty-plus members of CLCG had a Great time riding the HOG.  Say What?  See below:

In Air Conditioned Comfort:

Of Course – we ate:

And took in some sights:

And ate:

And rested:

We had all age groups:

We celebrated Bobby’s First Birthday this year with donuts (Thanks Mr. Ritzer!) instead of cake.

And took a break from the heat in a Plains, GA antique store.

And of course – we ate!

And we did more sightseeing.

Thank Jean for putting this all together!
